The Peterson
School of Tennis has been a stable outreach community program
in College Park, GA for over 28 years. The program provides
tennis instruction after school and on weekends, summer camps,
and boarding programs as well. Players throughout the state
and country have participated in training, workshops, summer
camps and accelerated programs according to skill for competition
and route of entry to tennis (college) scholarships. Several
national level players throughout the country train in the
High Performance program on a regular basis. Not only do students
complete college, but also most recently several have become
professional players on the WTA & ATP tour. Players
who received early training in their tennis development and
are now on tour include: Jewel Peterson, Jamea Jackson, and
Scoville Jenkins.
More than 70 students have received tennis scholarships from
schools throughout
the country, including USC, Texas Southern, North Carolina,
UGA, Temple, TSU, Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, and the
US Naval Academy. And the list goes on. The program prides
itself not only in producing quality tennis players but also
fostering discipline, desire, dedication, and determination.
Many aspiring tennis players visit throughout the year. Rated
as one of the best junior academies in the country, the program
has received accolades and national attention from CNN, the
Oprah Winfrey Show, Delta In-flight media, USTA,
and Tennis World Magazines. In 1999, The United States Tennis
Association (USTA) recognized the Peterson School of Tennis
as one of the top five junior programs in the country.
